Account Maintenance

Using the Webmail system for account maintenance (Windows/Mac/Unix)

All users with Physics Department accounts can perform basic account maintenance functions (changing passwords, forwarding mail, vacation message) by using the tools in the 'Accounts' section of the Webmail system.
Remember: You have two accounts/passwords: Unix/E-Mail and Windows/Samba. You should change both of them any time you change one.

Log in to the Webmail system and select 'Accounts' at the bottom of the page.

If you are currently logged into the Webmail system, you may click the links below to go directly to the appropriate section:

Password: Allows you to change your account's passwords. Changes should take effect immediately. This is a secure way to remotely change your password. Note that the new password must meet minimum requirements or it will not be changed. (NOTE: Windows and Unix passwords must be individually changed.)
Vacation/Absence: Allows you to setup or remove a vacation notice for your account. A vacation notice will automatically reply to any incoming e-mail you receive while you are away or unable to attend to your e-mail -- for example while on vacation or out of town on business. It could be used as a courtesy to let others know why you are not answering their e-mail to you.
Forwarding: Allows you to set or remove a forward on your e-mail. An e-mail forward lets you redirect your mail to another e-mail address (or a comma separated list of addresses if you wish). You can even forward to another address and keep a copy in your local mailbox.

To change your Unix/E-Mail and Windows/Samba password from SSH/terminal:

SSH to login.physics.harvard.edu
type passwd then enter and confirm your new password.
type smbpasswd then enter and confirm your new password.
We recommend you should set passwords the same as having a different unix and windos passwords may cause problems for you later.

If you have forgotten your Unix/E-Mail and/or Windows/Samba passwords, please contact us to have it reset. Please send e-mail from a Harvard address or contact us in person so that we may confirm the identity of the requestor.
